Did you take a stroll in downtown Simpsonville this Saturday?

Simpsonville's Salute to Spring culminated on Saturday with a spring stroll downtown.  About 100 children visited with the Easter Bunny near the old train depot on Main Street.

Larri Bennett, from Simpsonville said "I really enjoyed it.  I got to go into businesses that I've never been to before.  It was like a scavenger hunt."

The Simpsonville Fire Department had a truck on display as well. Firefighters Brian Smith and Chris Walker helped the kids explore the truck and handed out helmets.

People gathered at the old depot around 2 p.m. to collect their prizes for completing their passports. Cheryl Griggs' daughters, Kasey and Kylie both received Easter Baskets.

"The kids really had a good time. I stopped in stores I had never been in before, " commented Griggs.

The following businesses donated various prizes including, VBS Physical Therapy, Summit Place Living Center, Briarwood Living Center,  Me Salon & Day Spa, Extreme Tees, Over the Rainbow, Some Day's Child, Bargain Babies, Antiques Unlimited, Veronica & Co., The Garden House B & B, Vaughn's Country Store and McDonalds.

The Simpsonville Area Chamber of commerce would also like to thank Hillcrest High students, David Bohnenberger, Miranda Bowman and Jared Johns for volunteering at the event.  We would also like to thank the Simpsonville Police department including Officer Brent Rushing and Officer David Tedrow for helping the traffic flow.

Did you "Go Green" in Simpsonville March 13?

Simpsonville's downtown Main Street businesses celebrated "Go Green day" Saturday March 13th. The city supplied a recycling truck on Main Street, across from Vaughn's Country Store.  Laurens Electric Cooperative also provided energy saving tips and energy efficient light bulbs for those who stopped by at Vaughn's.

On the other end of Main Street, a Shred A Way paper shredding truck was sponsored by Emmanuel's Salon and Antiques Unlimited.  Simpsonville resident, Royce Adams said, "I never would've come here if it weren't for the shredding truck.  My sister-in-law loves antiques, and I can't wait to tell her about Antiques Unlimited!"

Bonnie Lou Roberts commented, "I appreciated having this service available.  I brought things to shred and recycle."

"It's a great service, and I was happy it was here.  It was very professional.  I brought 5 pick-up trucks worth of paper to shred today.  Thank you!" said Stan Szczygielski.

Linda Curtis, owner of Antiques Unlimited said, "Bringing the truck to Simpsonville was worth the investment."

Owner of Emmanuel's Salon, Phil Doub, got a workout loading paper into the shredder Saturday.  "I wanted to give back to the community and this was a great way to do it."
